Walter...The Horse That Taught Me a Lesson

I have this 'dream' horse in my head.

This...just a finished bridle horse instead of being in the snaffle and he has to be Shining Spark bred :) Link

14.2 hands, bay roan, 6-8 years old, finished reined cow horse, super quiet to be around and just the type of horse you 'want' to ride. And of course he has to be by a Shining Spark stud(not sure how I'll get the bay roan AND Shining Spark in the same package...but hey, it's just a dream!) and out of a cow bred mare(Peppy San Badger or some fun old foundation breeding??).

Until I can afford a $40,000 horse that will probably just sit in my pasture anyway because I will be too broke from buying him to show, I'm looking for a solid broke nice bred horse. Not too particular because I know it's not my end goal.

I have a hobby.

It's more like an addiction really.

I stalk KSL and Craigslist for horses.

Not 'check it every couple days and see if there's anything new'

I mean STALK them. Like 'check every 15 minutes to see if someone has posted just one more horse since last time.' I've probably checked it at least 3 times while writing this post, just because it's a habit.

And it's bad because for the past few months, I've had the money to buy a couple. It's like a huge, exhausting, but extremely addicting shopping trip that has lasted for 3 years. (Although I am proud of myself for not buying a lot that I have wanted to!)

Just scrolling through the ads I can probably tell you how just about all of them are bred and what I think of that bloodline(oh the educated opinions of a 16 year old).

There's a catch though.

I already have a couple of nice broke horses.

They're sitting in my pasture. My favorite one out there has navicular and can't be rode hard. I got him from a friend for $300! He pretty well fits what I'm looking for. 7 years old, palomino, 14 hands, super broke, slide stop, spin a hole in the ground, side pass a mile, rope anything, you name it. The only thing I don't like about him is he's grade!! (And well...as much as I hate to admit it, grade horses can be alright sometimes;)

Walter
He's kind of been on the back burner lately. He can't be rode at much more than a walk because he's not sound, so I've pretty much forgotten about him. I bought him as a kids horse, knowing I would either give lessons on him, or just resell him if things didn't work out. I have several people who would buy him right up, so that's not a problem. Needless to say I didn't have much of a plan for him when I wrote the check.

What's wrong with me?!

My dream is sitting right in front of me, and has for 6 monhs, and for some reason I'd rather pay a couple thousand to buy a new horse and cross my fingers that they're what I want, than pay a couple hundred to get Walter injected.

Silly me.

My new plan...inject, shoe and pad him, get him sound and then have fun!! It's really not that hard to to! Then I'd like to find another cheap project horse(I love them!!), and save all the money I was going to spend, to do important stuff like buy tack...just kidding...

How many times do I have what I want right in front of me, but I'm too blind to see?

In all aspects of our lives, whether it best spiritual, academic, who knows what!

Too often I search and search to a worldly solution to a problem that I just can't figure out, but when I finally humble myself enough to get down on my knees, a solution pops right up and I wonder why I didn't pray so much earlier!

Walter is just like Heavenly Father. He's right there willing to be my dream, but I have to do my part to free him and give him the power and ability to do that.

This year I'm going to try to notice what I have directly around me, and then suck up all its potential!

Who's with me?!
